Help for Troubled Marriages – Compassionate Advice for Saving Your Relationship

None of us ever want to find ourselves looking for help for troubled marriages. As soon as you reach out to someone looking for advice on what you can do to improve your marriage, you're admitting that there are serious issues to deal with. No one tells us that marriage is such a challenge when we first walk down the aisle. We live with the mistaken belief that our relationship will be so much different and that any problems we run into will be solved with a hug and a kiss. Life doesn't work that way. If you and your partner are facing a crossroads in your relationship and you're worried about what the future holds, you need help. Unless you make some drastic changes now, your marriage will inevitably head downhill towards divorce.

Here are a few tips to help you reconnect with your spouse:

Own up to your own faults and mistakes within the marriage. When our relationship starts to crumble it's very easy to point the finger of blame at our spouse. We don't want to take responsibility for what we've done that has contributed to the cracks in the foundation of the marriage. You need to though. Be honest with yourself and your partner about what you've done wrong and what you intend to do right. If you both can find the courage to do this, it will help clear the air and get your relationship back on track.

Put your spouse first again. As the dynamic of the relationship between a husband and wife changes over time, so does their priorities. At one time you placed the needs of your spouse before your own. Granted, now there may be children involved and obviously their needs supersede both you and your partners. However, you have to make an effort to recognize what your spouse needs from you and then work towards giving that to them. If you show that you are more giving, they'll likely follow suit and want to do the same for you.

Talk to your spouse with compassion and understanding. Sometimes a couple will reach a stalemate because they just can't see eye-to-eye on an issue. Try as they might they can't move past a conflict and it eats away at their connection. You need to work with your partner to resolve any issues that are coming between the two of you. Talk to them openly and honestly and encourage the same from them. Do this in a calm and controlled way. Try not to be confrontational and really listen to what they share with you.

Patience and understanding both offer tremendous help for troubled marriages. Work in tandem with your spouse to find a resolution to the struggles you two are facing and always remember why you two fell in love with one another.
